VICTORIA, BC, Canada (November 17, 2020) - Lazar Consulting is proud to have contributed to the British Columbia Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure implementation of the Variable Speed Limit System (VSLS).
VSLS' goal is to reduce traffic incidents by adjusting speed limits based on real-time traffic and weather conditions.
The new traffic congestion-based system will adjust the speed limit to slow people down before traffic reaches a stop-and-go situation. The purpose is to calm and smooth out traffic to help reduce the high number of rear-end collisions caused by sudden changes in travel speed that occur on this busy section of Highway 1, Sumas River Bridge in Abbotsford and the Prest Road overpass in Chilliwack.
In this VSLS implementation Lazar Consulting applied its enterprise system expertise over a period of 24 months by bringing together all Canadian based vendors to seamlessly deploy a new technology that improves safety on BC highways.
Some of the key challenges were the implementation of new technology while the legacy system was modernized, integration of the VSLS with Drive BC and other backend systems, and maintaining 24/7 operations of existing VSLS highway corridors.
